Archive of Grief
In an exploration of culture and preservation, this project touches on the process of grieving a loved one. While the world persists and continues to change, those in grieving may feel it in coming to a standstill. This piece includes personal reflections of grief and references Korean motifs and mother-of-pearl art.

Context
This project was for Advanced Drawing at the University of Washington. I was inspired by the preservation of culture at the Burke Museum and wanted to explore ways of referencing my own culture in art.
Process
I wanted to use this piece to reference my grief for my grandmother who was my primary connection to my Korean heritage growing up. I started by researching Mother of Pearl motifs that I could include in my piece. From there, I sketched composition drafts that would help me properly layer the plexiglass images to create a cohesive image.
Final Product
In the final piece, I arranged three plexiglass etchings to created a layered image. I used acrylic paint to create Mother of Pearl motifs for the background of the arrangement.
